The internationally renowned Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens should not be missed on any visit to the Overberg region. This beautiful, secluded garden stretches from the mountains to the Atlantic Ocean showcasing fynbos flora from one of the Cape floristic region’s most biodiverse areas. The gardens consist of 10 hectares of cultivated fynbos garden and 190 hectares of natural fynbos interspersed by lovely walking trails.
Stroll along the coastal mountain slopes, through wind-clipped heathlands, deep gorges with relict forests, flats and marshes. Visit the garden’s waterfalls, its amber pools and climb the dunes adjacent to the beach where specialized salt-adapted plants can be found.
The Harold Porter Gardens are only 15 minutes’ drive from Villa Marine Guest House in the Betty’s Bay area. Entrance fees are very affordable at around R40 per adult with discounts for senior citizens, students and learners. Children under 6 years may visit for free.
The park is open from 08h00 to 16h30 Monday to Friday and from 08h00 to 17h00 on weekends and public holidays.
